Receipts & estimated amounts
Attach a receipt, review scan suggestions and confirm an estimate.
Attach a receipt photo
- Open the expense form and tap the receipt area.
- Choose Take Photo or Choose Photo, then select your image.
- Review the photo and finish the expense details.
- Save the expense.
What happens: the saved receipt is attached to the expense and other Book members can view it. Adding and viewing receipt photos is free. Receipt cropping requires Pro.
Fill in details from a receipt
Receipt scanning can suggest the total amount, merchant and date when available. Recognition runs on your device: Apple Vision on iPhone and iPad, and Google ML Kit on Android.
- Take or select a clear receipt photo.
- On a free account, tap Fill in amount from receipt to use an available free scan. Pro scans receipt photos automatically.
- Check the amount, merchant suggestion and date against the receipt. Review the Book’s currency too.
- If the app offers Use, tap it only if you want that suggested amount. Undo lets you undo a value filled from the receipt. You can also type the correct details yourself.
- Choose the payer and split, then save when everything is correct.
What happens: scanning helps fill the form; it does not save an expense or work out an item-by-item split for you. Only the entry you save affects the Book.
Free accounts have 3 scans total per LoopSplit account, shared across devices. This is not a daily or monthly allowance. Pro adds automatic, unlimited scanning and cropping. You can still attach a photo and enter the amount manually without using a scan.
If a scan misses the amount
Try a sharp, well-lit photo with the full total visible. Check that the suggested value is the total rather than a subtotal, tax, cash tendered or change. If it cannot read an amount, enter it manually; you can keep the receipt attached.
Recognition does not send the image to a cloud recognition service. A photo you save as an attachment is uploaded to the shared Book. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
Save an amount that is not final yet
Use a Pro estimated expense when you know roughly what a cost will be, but a tip, deposit adjustment or other final amount is still pending.
- Create an expense and enter your best estimate.
- Enable Amount Not Final Yet, then choose the payer and split.
- Review and save. Exact-amount splits cannot be estimated; use a supported split method.
What happens: the estimate counts toward balances immediately and stays in To Do until someone confirms the final amount. It is not a draft excluded from balances.
Confirm the final amount
- Open the estimated expense from To Do and choose Confirm, or open its details and choose Confirm Final Amount.
- Enter the final amount. If the estimate was already correct, use Use estimated amount.
- Review the details and tap Save.
What happens: the existing expense changes to the final amount, its split and balances recalculate, and its confirmation task is completed. You do not need to add a second expense.
