Loops & To Do
Set up recurring costs, record a due period and manage future expenses.
What is a Loop?
A Loop saves a recurring cost’s schedule, payer and split. Use one for rent, internet, utilities or a shared subscription. A Loop is the plan; an expense records an actual period’s cost.
Create a Loop
- Open a Book and select Loops.
- Use the add button to open New Loop.
- Enter a name, select the payer, and choose who shares the cost.
- Set the amount, schedule and first due date. Turn on Amount Varies for costs such as electricity, where each period may differ. A usual amount can help you plan.
- Review the split and save. If you choose Add First Expense, review that choice too: it records the first expense as part of creating the Loop.
What happens: the saved Loop appears in the Book’s Loops list. Due periods appear in To Do for someone in the Book to check and record. Creating a schedule alone does not make a payment.
Record a due period
- Find the due Loop in To Do and tap Record.
- Check the period and enter or confirm its amount. For a varying bill, use the actual amount for that period.
- Review the payer and split, then tap Save.
What happens: an expense is added to Activity, balances update, and that period is completed in To Do. The Loop keeps its schedule for later periods. No money is sent.
If you missed several periods, check each due date before recording them so that old costs are not confused with the current period. Use the Loop’s History to check what has already been recorded.
Change a Loop or pause it
Open the Loop to edit its schedule, amount, payer or split. Save to apply your changes. Editing the plan does not rewrite the expenses you already recorded; open a past expense separately if that entry needs correcting.
To pause the Loop, turn off Active and save. Paused Loops stop asking for new periods to be recorded. Existing expenses and balances remain.
Deleting a Loop leaves expenses already recorded in place and removes its amounts still waiting to be recorded. Review the confirmation before deleting.
Why is a Loop waiting or needing attention?
A free Book supports up to 3 active Loops. Additional Loops can wait for Pro; pause another Loop or have a member with active Pro in the Book. If a payer or participant has left, review the Loop’s people and split before recording it.
What are monthly Loop costs?
Monthly totals help estimate recurring costs and your share. They are planning figures based on the schedules and amounts in your Loops, rather than proof that those expenses have been recorded or paid. Varying amounts can change the final cost.
Amounts that are not final yet are a different To Do task: see estimated expenses.
