SHARED EXPENSE GUIDES
How to manage recurring shared bills
A schedule reminds you what is due. An expense records the cost. A repayment records money paid between members.

Separate the schedule, expense and repayment
A recurring bill has three different moments: the next period becomes due, someone records the actual expense, and members settle any balance. Keeping these separate helps avoid duplicate costs.
- Loop: saves the recurring schedule, payer and split.
- Expense: records a cost and affects balances after it syncs.
- Repayment: records money already paid between members outside the app.
LoopSplit does not transfer money, connect to your bank or pay the service provider.
A rent-and-internet example
Alex and Sam split $1,800 rent and $60 internet equally each month. Alex pays both providers. When the period’s two expenses are recorded and synced, each person’s share is $930, so Sam owes Alex $930 if there are no other entries.
When Sam sends Alex $930 outside the app, they record that repayment. They do not add another $930 shared expense, because that would count a new cost rather than settle the existing balance.
Set up a Loop for a repeating cost
- Open the shared Book and create a Loop for the bill.
- Choose the amount or amount workflow, schedule, payer and participants.
- Review the split and save the Loop.
- When a period is due, open To Do, check the amount, and record it.
- Check that period’s history before recording it again.
Due periods require someone to check and record them; they do not silently become bank payments. Each free Book can have up to three active Loops. Pro removes that active-Loop limit. See the Loops & To Do walkthrough for the app’s controls.
Handle utility bills that change
A schedule can repeat even when the amount does not. Check the utility statement and use the actual amount when you record the period. A receipt photo can keep the bill alongside the entry.
Pro also supports estimated expenses that you confirm later. An estimate already counts toward balances once saved and synced; confirming it changes the same entry and recalculates the balances. Do not create a second final expense for a bill you already recorded as an estimate. Read estimated amounts for the confirmation steps and limits.
Check before the next period
Review the payer and participants when someone moves out or a bill changes. Check pending entries and sync before assuming a cost is missing. If a saved expense is wrong, edit the existing entry rather than record the same period again.
When the group settles up, record repayments after the money has moved. Balances & repayments explains the amounts shown in the Book. LoopSplit is available on iPhone, iPad and Android, so members can use the same shared Book across devices.
